If you have an interest in one of the most exciting, and yet tumultuous, times in our country’s history and would like to actually relive the battles and camp life, as well as make some fascinating and entertaining new friends, then now is your chance! The 21st Georgia portrays one of the most famous units during our civil war while it’s members take part in reenactments and living history events. We are always recruiting new and experienced members to join our unit as soldiers, civilians, medical personnel or musicians.
Becoming involved in reenacting is as simple as starting a conversation with a reenactor at any event or even as easy as replying to our online application. No previous experience or prior knowledge of the Civil War is necessary. After completing the online application you will be contacted by the 21st Georgia Recruitment Officer to gather more information about your interests and to answer any questions that you may have. Before officially joining the unit you are required to attend one event as our guest. During this event you will begin to learn the basics of reenacting. New soldiers will take part in weapons and movement drill as well as learn basic safety procedures while on the field. Civilians will be given opportunities to be involved in camp life, musicians will begin to learn the basics of Civil War music, new medical personnel will start work with the medical unit, children will play with other youngsters and all will begin to form new friendships.
Prospective unit members often borrow uniforms, period dresses, children’s clothing and necessary gear from current unit members in order to avoid a large cost to any individual or family just entering the hobby. You will be expected to begin purchasing and returning this gear within your first year of reenacting. Well-informed unit members will help make sure your new purchases are appropriate.
Yearly unit dues are $35 for a family, $25 for an individual, and $10 for a student. All unit members are required to purchase insurance, which varies from $5 to 12 per year depending on age and activities within the unit. Any member (and their immediate family) currently serving on active duty in the U.S. military is exempt from unit dues and insurance costs.
The 21st Georgia is a family friendly unit and encourages your entire clan to come on out and experience the enjoyment and bonding that is reenacting!
